Haksoon Paik

Dr. Haksoon Paik is a Senior Fellow and the Director of the Center for North Korean Studies at the Sejong Institute in South Korea. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania, and was a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard University. He is an adviser to the Kim Dae-jung Peace Center and a board member of the Korean Peace Forum. He was formerly the Chairman of the Policy Evaluation Committee in South Korea’s Ministry of Unification, the Executive Director of the Seoul-Washington Forum, the Chairman of the Policy Committee of the Korean Council for Reconciliation and Cooperation, and a Vice President of Korean Political Science Association. He also was on the policy advisory committees of South Korea’s Foreign Ministry and National Assembly. He is author of The History of Power in North Korea: Ideas, Identities, and Structures (2010) (in Korean), “Changes and Continuities in Inter-Korean Relations” (2013), and “The Military in the North Korean Politics: Its Character, Status, and Role” (2011) (in Korean).
